No signal on TV

We went out this customers place yesterday afternoon as she was complaining of no signal. When we got there we conducted a couple of tests in different locations. We found that the leadin from the TV Antenna was made up of three different types of coaxial cable. One was air space which I have spoke about on an earlier blog. One was RG59 & the other was RG6 quad shield which is what SHOULD be used now with Digital TV. So we threw a length of RG6 quad shield over the edge of the roof and connected it up to the TV system and BINGO we had TV Reception. So we went and told the customer what we had found and she gave us the go ahead to run a new cable so that it was one single run down to the booster and splitter under the house. All done, all good.

TV reception

We went out to this customers house this morning as they complaining of fuzzy Digital TV Reception. Digital TV is not fuzzy, it either works or not(well not very well anyway). So what they were watching was analog TV. So we switched it back to Digital and explained what had happened. Apparently they had some visitors that were playing with the TV and since then they had the problem. Anyway all fixed now.

TV Antenna repairs

We travelled down to Cooloola Cove today to see a customer who couldn't get TV Reception in two bedrooms after having AUSTAR disconnected. We climbed into the roof and found some very dodgy connections, some of them having approx 10mm of braided shield hanging out the bottom of the F Connector (these are the connectors that are crimped onto the cable & screw onto the wall). There should be no shielding visible at all. So we cut them all off and re terminated the cables with new F Connectors. After throwing a fly lead out the man , sorry person hole and running it to the tv we also found that the 4way splitter was faulty out of one output, so we replaced this as well.

Panasonic TV's & DVD Recorders

Do you have a Panasonic Digital TV or a DVD Recorder? If so, is it freezing or pixelating? If this is happening they are probably receiving to much signal from your TV Antenna. The Panasonic digital tuners do not like to have to much signal coming in to them. So your masthead amplifier needs to be turned down or the signal needs to be attenuated at the wall socket of that TV.
We had a customer this morning complaining of a couple of channels breaking up. When we checked the signal there was way to much signal coming in so we climbed up on the roof & turned the amplifier down and the TV never faltered for the next 20 mins.

New TV Antenna Installation

We went to a elderly ladies place today as she was having troubles receiving digital television. After getting up onto the roof and inspecting the TV Antenna we found that it was all rusted and was full of paper wasp mud. We also found that the cable that was in the system was airspace cable which if you don't know is not very good for Digital TV reception, it is the cable that has a clear plastic with tubes through it around the centre copper conductor, with only a little bit of shielding. The cable that SHOULD be used by any good TV Antenna installer is RG6 quad shield coaxial cable. Anyway after replacing all the cable and installing a new antenna higher up on the pitch of the roof facing the Gympie transmitter we got very good signal without having to use an masthead amplifier unlike what they had before which was facing the Black Mountain transmitter. When the lady got home as we where just finishing and checking her TV she asked if we could have a look at a power point in her kitchen which was oozing a green liquid from it socket. After calling an Electrician friend of mine (ABACUS AIR & ELECTRICAL) they will be coming around tomorrow afternoon to fix it for her.

New TV & DVD Install

We went out to The Palms this morning to hook up a new TV & Blu-Ray Player. All went together well, then the customer asked us if we could hook it all up to the Internet, so we went out and made up some Ethernet cables to length and hooked them up. The Samsung smart tv was first to be connected. It connected up straight away and streamed video very smoothly from the net. Then we set up the Blu-Ray player we had to change the remote code set to code set2 because they had the same brand DVD Recorder & they had the same IR codes. Once we did that it was seamless. Then she asked if they could put their USB hard drive on the TV which had all of their movies stored on it. Yep no worries and we plugged it into one of the USB ports o. The side of the TV. The whole experience was a fantastic success.
